I am thankful for ..... silly games with good friends.
Yep. I know it is not the amazingly thoughtful thanks this week, but I have to say that I love silly games and over my wonderful winter break I was able to play tons of them with great friends.
My students today, always wanting to probe into my life (and of course get us off topic- which they thought they did effectively, but I had planned "off-topic" time in today since it is the first day back), asked me what I did on New Year's Eve. I think I surprised them when I said that I played Speed Uno (with house rules), Gossip Line Pictionary, and Monopoly Deal all while wearing a fake tiara and pulling party poppers until 3:30am. I am not against drinking alcohol in moderation, but I could honestly tell them that we were as dry as could be and I've never had such a fun time (and I don't think I've ever stayed up that late on New Year's Eve)!
I still enjoy an intellectually stimulating round of Rook (double-deck house rules) and TipOver Crate Game or any other strategy game, but when it comes down to it I love the evolving game of Speed Uno the very best. The rules can change as the night goes on to include shout "Crazy!" every time you lay an eight, or 6's and 9's are the same thing (because we have difficulty telling the difference), stand up when you play a five, rotate to a new seat with a 4, or you have to yell "I weeen!" when you play your last card or else pick up two cards. We've had a full range of rules (those are just the tip of the iceberg).
However, is not just the game Speed Uno, it is the modified Speed Uno with great friends combo that I love. So in conclusion, the best way to put it is if they offered it at Burger King I would order a #1 Combo (get it...uno means one...wow this is really getting out of control).
